Motorized Shades InstallationInstallation was straight forward, fairly easy, and should be able to be done by just about anyone with no mechanical background or prior installation experience, as long as they watch the videos and read the instructions. The packaging was superior, nothing broken, bent or dented, I think those tubes you use for shipping could withstand a 3 ton nuclear blast, or at least the UPS delivery guy!! :):)Color match was excellent, and they provide just the right amount of light restriction for our home office, and having the remote control already Pre-Programmed to the shades, and each blind marked with it's program number couldn't have been better. We received our order about 3 weeks earlier than expected, so we were thrilled to get rid of the old shades much sooner than we thought. An absolute "Best" in customer service in our experience, and we've made a lot of Online Purchases over the years. Thanks blinds.com, you're truly the greatest!!October 4, 2013
Wish I didn't wait so long. These cellular shades are awesome. It took just under 30 minutes to install. They look so good I can't believe it.December 23, 2013
Mototized ShadesJust what the Dr. ordered Easy to order and to install I have more orderedDecember 23, 2013
Just what I neededWe recently bought a house that has three windows about 12 feet above the floor in the loft. The windows had cheap aluminum blinds on them that were impossible to adjust. I had been looking at motorized cellular shades from other companies but couldn't justify the price.I stumbled upon these but was a little skeptical after reading through the reviews. I decided to just order one as a trial to see how they worked. It took me about 10 minutes to install and I'm very happy with them. In fact, I just ordered two more to complete the set.My only real complaint is the the remote doesn't seem to have a lot of range. It works fine in certain areas and not others. It's not a big deal because I don't plan to raise or lower them very often. So far, I'm very happy with them. Hopefully the other two that I ordered will work as smoothly. The attached pic shows the three windows in our loft. The window on the right has the motorized shade while the other two have aluminum blinds.August 5, 2012
Motorized shadeI love my cellular shade. After installing the shade, I had a hard time making it work. I called customer service and they helped me step by step. The phone was answered pretty much straight away, without the need to press several numbers. Great customer service.October 4, 2012
Test caseI was purchased one as a test case before committing to many.Install: Inside mount very easy could use shorter flat head screws.Programming remote: Had to call very helpful, after programming the channel my unit would not respond to remote, try holding the stop button for 3-5 seconds then came alive.Color: egg shell on the dark side, headrail muck darker (might paint it a lighter shade of white)Motor: unit works great a little noisy. Plan to dampen it if possible. I think several units operated at once could be loud.Overall given the price, its a deal installs and works like a champJuly 21, 2012
Don't waste your moneyOk so I put up my remake order. They I got them, put them up everything worked great. The one blind has some messed up spots on the material. However they worked great. A week later one of the remakes is not going up all the way. I'm very upset but I decided to review any papers and found a way to remove any bottom set it may have on it, did that. Tried to raise again hoping that would work. NO it didn't. What happened they were just fine yesterday and now it's a piece. This is the second time I have had problems with my blinds. I am NOT happy with this company. The quality is bad if they only work for one week. Don't waste your money on this particluar blinds.August 1, 2012
Instructions are sparseI received my motorized celluler shades and installed them with some difficulty.. it took about an hour for two shades. The shades are good quality, and look great. I'm happy. The installation instructions leave a lot to be desired. A simple instruction sheet specifying the appropriate sequence would help a lot. Specifically I initially installed the brackets too close to the wall to allow for the battery tube, and had to move them.I know that this was foolish on my part, but if the instructions had a multi step process I could have avoided this mistake.1. Mount the battery tubes on the back side of the headrail.2. measure the required clearance from the wall3. Mount the brackets on the ceiling to allow for this clearance. The other problem is that the shades come closed, so one cannot determine inside from outside. The shade must be mounted and the remote control operated to discover whether the shade has been mounted inside out or not. A label on the top of the headrail indicating inside or outside of the shade would be helpful.July 4, 2013
So totally worth itWe have a large (~72"x47") window high above our front door that faces southwest. The afternoon sun would shine through and superheat the house and make the open layout ground floor uninhabitable until sundown. After we researched motorized slat blinds (Standard cord-driven were not an option for us because we have small children who might hurt themselves with the cord) and found them to be out of our price range, we came across these honeycomb cellular shades. I provided the window frame measurements and the blinds were -spot- -on- and I mean it. Not a single shaft of light on any of the four sides. The battery pack is a metal tube that requires 8 AA batteries. We mounted it on the side of the window and we can see it from inside the house, but its white so it blends. It can't be seen from outside. The tabs on the end of the bottom piece came off during shipping and made a dent in the side of the shade material but the unfolding process resolved that.PS. The instructions for the remote are awful. Look online for the $10 coupon code on any blinds.June 10, 2013
Going on third attempt to get one that will work.I purchased this for a large, foyer window up high and the first unit that arrived started to smoke when the installer installed the battery compartment and connected it to the unit. Yes smoke came out of it. The 7 AAs used were so hot after a few secs they were almost too hot to hold.Blinds.com sent a second unit to replace the first one in short order. Unfortunately, this one is DOA and has no power at all when connected. So now we are on attempt three which they are supposeddly going to try to get right and QA before they send it out.Seriously considering just cancelling the order and getting my money back. There are obviously serious Quality Control issues with this product (that or I am just the unluckiest customer around). Blinds.com Customer Service has been very responsive and also offerred to credit the amount of this order towards an equiavlent from another manufacturer, but that ends up being about 3x the price which I am not willing to pay. It does me no good to wonder if attempt three on this will be any better than attempts 1 or 2 so I am debating just pulling the plug. Nor does it do much for the installer that I got through them (so the guy knows what he is doing) to install it.I would not recommend this product given the power unit\battery issues I have experienced.October 9, 2012
Great value!I got three of the motorized blinds for my out of reach windows. They are side-by-side and programed together. One thing I figured out is that if one or two sense the control to go up or down you should let them go all the way and then tell the other. If you push the button while one is already going all you will do is stop that one wherever it is in its travel and maybe get one of the others started. Again, the worst and most frustrating thing you can do with multiple shades is to keep pressing the button once one or more shades start moving. Be patient and wait until the ones that start, finish, and then get the others going. They work well as long as you are aware of how they work. I think Blinds.com should have this information in their instructions or show this in one of their videos.January 4, 2013
Great PurchaseRest assured, you can order these blinds knowing that Blinds.com has corrected the issues noted in the early reviews below. We have a large window (71 inches wide) and wanted a blackout shade for watching TV. Shelly, a great representative, mentioned we might consider a motorized option for simplicity. I liked it for the coolness factor. The shades were a perfect fit and darken the room completely. The remote arrived programmed for our blinds and it stops at the pre-programmed length automatically (the bottom of the window sill). They are a bit loud...maybe comparable to an ice dispenser froma fridge. Certainly not deafening and not a deal breaker. I'm sure I could buy a whisper quiet model at four times the price, but you only hear the motor for a few seconds anyway! I'll take the trade off for convenience.I rated the quality only four stars because the material does feel a bit thin, but no rips or tears are evident and as I said they darken the room perfectly.Great purchase - highly recommended!September 12, 2012
Need Better Installation InstructionsI'm very happy with my blinds now that they are up and operating. However, the installation instructions need a lot of work. There are no tips about what drill sizes to use. So, I have a few extra holes in the wall. There is no trouble shooting guide -- after I installed the shade, it did not lower evenly. Only after a lot of thinking about how to correct this did it dawn on me that maybe if I pulled down on one side to "stretch" the shade a little, that might solve the problem. Sure would have been nice if this tip would have been in the instructions. Then, the remote control would not operate the motor. I called for help and was told that the shade would probably need to be replaced. Before doing that, I said to let me try a couple of things. I learned by accident that you need to hold the button for about 2 seconds for the shade to operate. You can't just punch it and expect it to start. Again, a little tip that should be in the instructions. Let me stress again, I am very happy with the shade. I am a little worried about battery life, and am thinking that if this is a problem that I could replace the battery pack with a rechargeable 12 V alarm back up battery that would really do the trick, and be much better than using 8 AA batteries. I can buy one on Amzon with a charger for about $25. Again, a tip that you might want to include in the instructions (wouldn't be helpful for an inside mount, but would work nicely for my outside mount that is 13 feet off the floor).May 11, 2013
Nice product for the priceI bit the bullet and bought 2 of these. They were back ordered, so took about 20 days to arrive.I spent ~$300 total for two windows. I am pretty happy with them so far. The look and quality of the cellular shade is something I'm impressed with. They were easy to install, even though the provided instructions were pretty poor. The Blinds.com website has a lot of how-to documents and videos, so that was helpful. I read in the reviews that the manufacturer would reduce the size of the blind slightly from what is ordered (to accommodate installation). This was not the case for me. The blinds arrived the exact size I ordered. Each shade has a power pack that holds 8 AA batteries so plan for that. These are easily hidden in my implementation. The only negative for me so far is that the motors are a little louder than I would like, but for he price I can live with that.I want to automate these using a MiCaseVerde Vera HA controller, but technical specs on the signal details (RF) are hard to find.June 9, 2013
Motorized Cell ShadesOrdered two 46" by 46" blackout cell shades from Blinds.com. Arrived on time. I wish that the directions were easier to read and not a photocopy of a photo copy. I had to completely break off the hooks to hold the battery bar off because they hit my thick brand new windows. When I went online to watch video on Blinds.com for help they were using a completely different and much nicer hook. So I had to run to store for velcro to secure battery bar that holds 8 AA's each.June 6, 2014
Had high hopes...Remember the saying, "If its too good to be true, then it probably isn't." I had high hopes for these blinds but should have realized their potential right away because there were issues right out of the box. I received these in late November 2012 and here's my story:First I had trouble syncing the remote with each blind (4 total). After about an hour I finally got them all synced and ready to be installed. I then installed each one in my two-story great room which was fairly easy to do, minus being up 18 ft in the air. When I went to begin using the blinds I noticed them operating on incorrect RF channels which was a concern but figured I could live with it. Then one of the blind's motor started acting funny and only lowering one side of the blind. Tried a few things but ultimately called blinds.com for them to send a replacement.Three weeks later in mid-December I received my replacement but after testing it I couldn't get it to sync with my remote. I tried many different things but couldn't get them to sync and the holidays got the better of me.Fast forward to this past week when I got a chance to attempt this one more time. I turned of all the wi-if in my house to make sure that wasn't an issue, bought another brand of lithium batteries and tried again....success on syncing, but the remote won't lower the shade at all. Tried on the other blinds and I got zero reaction. So the remote that was used less than 10 times in 2 months is already dead (even though it just synced) or is there something majorly wrong with the entire blind system?I have no clue what the problem is now but I'll be calling customer support again tomorrow. I hope blinds.com can rectify this because I just paid a lot of money for 4 blinds that never all worked correctly and I specifically bought these for their ability to be used in this room type.Buyer beware.February 3, 2013
Motorized blindsBlinds.com website was very easy to use and understand. We ordered two motorized blinds to see if these low cost blinds really worked. To our joy they are as good as, if not better, than the Hunter Douglus motorized blinds we are replacing. Based on the quality and ease of installation with our first order from blinds.com, we will definitely be covering 11 additional windows with these "priced right" motorized blinds.March 8, 2013
Amazing!I'm happy overall, but the installtion instructions need a lot of work. For example, they said nothing about how to install the battery box. I had to figure that out from seeing the two plastic clips and their mounts. The motor is noisier than I'd like. Their were a few wrinkles in the fabric that still haven't gone out. The color is darker than my wife wanted, but there isn't a good enough selection to choose from. But again; overall, we no longer have to step into our big tub to raise and lower the blinds, so we're happy, and as an engineer, I loved the shipping container system. Amazing!June 2, 2014
not ready for prime timepurchased 6 motorized blinds for clerestory windows. price was right. delivery took a couple weeks as predicted. small plastic parts arrived broken. couldn't program shades properly due to electrical connection issue in battery pack. was able to find one that worked and programmed all shades and hung one only to find that the remote can't transmit as far as my upper windows (14') and that the shade goes up and down unevenly from left to right. tried to work with support on this but they were quick to offer refund and didn't really have a technical team to troubleshoot the issue. they were very nice about the refund, but how much wasted time and energy and material for a product that simply isn't ready for prime time? until they redesign this product, buyer beware!November 16, 2012
Be careful of battery lifeOur installation of the motorized blinds is on a set of windows 12 feet above floor level. We found that the batteries on both sets of blinds died within 3-5 months of installation. This is a vacation home so they saw little use. If used frequently I would suppose they would die even sooner. Not a problem unless replacing the batteries involves climbing up a ladder several times a year. We will be replacing these with hard wired motorized blinds...waste of money for us unfortunately. Should have done more homework before buying. Some other brands offer solar rechargeable battery packs but to my knowledge not blinds.com at this time.May 29, 2014
