2-on-1 Headrail
Generally, horizontal blinds 72" or wider are suggested to be made as a two or three on one headrail. Standard spacing between blind or shade is approximately one half inch. You will also need to specify the controls for each panel of your blind or shade. Decorative Valances will accommodate the overall width of the 2-on-1 headrail.

Money saving tip for Fauxwood and Wood blinds:
Save money by ordering your blinds with separate headrails, rather than multiple blinds on a single headrail. You'll save the 2 on 1 fee, and also eliminate the $70 shipping fee if your blind exceeds 90 inches in width. They'll also be easier to install and safer from possible shipping damage. We'll send you one valance to span across all the blinds for a streamlined look. Please designate the size of the valance in the "notes section". Common valances do not apply to fabric shades or verticals.

2 on 1 Headrail
3-on-1 Headrail Blinds or shades of extra-large widths must be made as a two or three on one headrail (our system will let you know if your product fits this description). Standard spacing between blind or shade is approximately one half inch. You will also need to specify the controls for each panel of your blind or shade. If you choose Continuous Cord control (available on most shades, but not blinds) with a 3 on 1 headrail, your center shade will not operate independently, as it will operate with either the left or right section. Decorative Valances will accommodate the overall width of the 3-on-1 headrail.

A 3.5" decorative treatment used to cover the face of a headrail.

7 inch Deluxe Valance

NOTE: This does take the place of the battery pack in the headrail.

Angle Iron
L-shaped metal bracket used primarily to attach to a wall fabric window valances made with a wooden top. Sometimes referred to as an "L-bracket".

Arch Legs This "leg" serves as a base - propping the arch up. While many arches do not require any legs, your arch might need some to properly fit your window. If your window appears to be "sitting" on rectangle block - then you probably need to order legs. If you need help determining your leg height, please call 1-800-505-1905 for personalized service.
Artemis Valance The Hunter Douglas 3 1/4" Artemis Valance can be substituted for the Grandover valance on Country Wood and Genuine Wood Blinds. Artemis Valance
Attached Valance
Decorative top treatment covering headrail and functional hardware.

AutoWand

The AutoWand feature eliminates dangling cords and chains, providing safe and smooth operation.

Benefits:
  • One control convenience
  • Streamlined appearance
  • Increases safety

Available only with one-way stack or split stack. Not available with the Backstacker feature

BackStacker
Traditional verticals operate by moving the stack across the window blocking the view of the outside. The BackStacker feature allows vanes to be pulled from the back, stacking them neatly at the edge of the window, and allowing a clear view of the outside. This feature also reduces vane swaying for easier traversing.

Bali Continuous Loop Valance
A standard, square-corner PVC valance that features a channel panel for insertion of roller or solar fabric to match your shade.

Bali No Cords Valance
A sleek, aluminum-extruded valance that is fabric covered to match your shade. Available on both roller and solar shades.

Basic Lining A layer of fabric sewn to the back of a drapery to protect the fabric from sun damage and heat. Made from a premium cotton/polyester blend. Strongly recommended.

Note: interlining is recommended for silk or linen draperies.

Basic White Curtain Rod This is used when layering a panel underneath a top-treatment, so that the hardware to hang the panel is minimal and won't interfere with more decorative hardware used to hang a valance. Available only with a rod-pocket panel, since this type of panel is best designed for layering.
Bass Wood
Bass wood shows less grain, similar to Maple wood.

BioArch
Goes perfectly with our 2" Fauxwood Blinds, or the Fauxwood/Satinwood Shutters. Each slat can be individually rotated for maximum light control, also provides good insulation and helps prevent sun fade.

Bishop Sleeve
A drapery in which each side panel is tied back in one or more places in order to create a poofy appearance above the tieback. Allow extra length (15") for poofing over the tieback.

Blackout Arch A 100% efficiency arch that resembles the Sunburst arch except the slat openings are not completely cut through the arch, generating a total sunlight blocking feature. A great arch treatment to darken any room. The street side of the arch has no design.
Blackout Lining
A layer of opaque fabric sewn to the back of a drapery to block all light from filtering in. Some are heavy and difficult to penetrate with a needle, while others are softer. Both will add to the weight but will also improve the draping qualities. Usually in cream or white.

Blindstitched
Refers to a specific, detailed type of stitching that ensures the stitches are not visible on face of drapery, thus the term "blindstitching". All of our draperies have blindstitched top, bottom and side hemming.

Bottom-Up/Top-Down
A VERY popular option that allows the shade to be raised and lowered in either direction to allow for privacy similar to that of a cafe curtain... There will be controls positioned on each side of shade. Please be aware that most bottom-up/top-down shades (regardless of manufacturer) have a small gap at the top that will allow light to come through.28% of our customers order this option when available!

Box Pleat
Inverted, tailored pleats that are flat on the front of the drapery to create a boxy look.

Buckram
Sometimes referred to as crinoline, used to stiffen to tops of pelated draperies.

Cafe Shutter
Cafe shutters do not span the entire height of a window. They leave the top portion of a window opening completely uncovered. They normally go up only half way, but you can designate how high you want your cafe shutters. And a cafe shutter will not have a top frame.

Cartwright Custom Wood Cornice C
Although we do our best to portray colors accurately, actual colors will vary. Many colors and subtle textures cannot always be appreciated on computer monitors, which vary from one to another. We are pleased to provide you with free color samples.

Remember also that dye lots might vary between the swatch sample and the product you receive. Further, due to the inherent natural characteristics of wood, each cornice's stain color may appear different.

Cascades
Fabric side panels which drape loosely down each side of a swag.

Cassette
An integrated valance system with a stylish, curved facia with inserted fabric, combines an enhanced look with a quick and easy installation.

There is an additional deduction taken off the ordered width when ordered.

Cellular
The term "cell" describes each visible side pocket on a honeycomb shade. A honeycomb shade is a more energy efficient version of a pleated shade. The shade is formed of hexagonal cells placed side-to-side.

The more cells there are, the more energy efficient the shade is. Also, the larger the cell size, the better the insulation since the cells "trap" air in the pockets.

Starting from the left, the image shows a 3/8" double cell shade (pink shade), a 1/2" single cell shade (blue shade), and lastly a 3/4" single cell shade (beige shade). Triple cell shades are most efficient and are also available.

Cellular
Center Opening
This vertical track has all of the fabric stacked on either side of the controls so that the blind or shade may be opened from the middle and pushed to either side. Each side is usually priced separately.

Center Stack
This vertical track has all of the fabric stacked in the middle with the controls on each side closing it toward the left and right.

Channel 1
For independent PowerRise shade operation, the recommended minimum distance between infrared eyes is 48". When the minimum separation distance is not possible, selected shades can be set for channel two operation. Channel two must be specified when the shade is ordered. A switch at the top of the remote control is used to change from one channel to the other. Two-channel operation is recommended with stacked shade, banks of shades, and shades in bay windows.

Channel 1 and Channel 2
Channel 1 is standard and is usually all that you will need. Channel 2 is used if you have adjacent shades which you wish to operate independently of each other. The minimum distance needed between infrared eyes is 48 inches, or you run the risk of having both shades respond to a command intended only for one. You can order the infrared eyes at opposite ends of each headrail to achieve the separation. However, if enough separation is not possible, you may order the shades to be set at alternating channels so that independent operation is preserved. There is a switch on the top of the remote control to switch between channels.

Charge Options
Methods of payment are Visa, Master Card, checks and money orders. Visa and Master card can be used to place orders online(via our secure server), by fax or by phone. Checks require a holding period of 5 to 7 days. The order will be put into production after the check has cleared.

Child Proof Tassels
The tassel breaks apart under minimal pressure to protect children and pets. Should the tassel come apart, it's very easy to reassemble. Simply snap the two halves back together.
Child Proff Tassels
Cloth Tapes
Choose patterned or solid cloth tapes to add a decorative accent to your blinds. Cloth tapes also increase privacy and light control by covering route holes.

Color and Stain Policy
Although we do our best to portray colors accurately, actual colors will vary. Many colors and subtle textures cannot always be appreciated on computer monitors, which vary from one to another. We are pleased to provide you with free color samples. Remember also that dye lots might vary between the swatch sample and the product you receive. Further, due to the inherent natural characteristics of wood, each cornice's stain color may appear different.

Constraints
A product may have limitations from the manufacturer such as size (minimum or maximum) or controls (left or right, cord or wand tilter).

Contempo-Pleat
A type of drapery heading that is less formal and less frilly; good for transitional and contemporary decors. The pleat at the top is more loose and boxy.

Continuous Cord Loop
A popular option, especially for wide, heavier shades. A continuous cord loop opens and closes the shade smoothly and evenly. Eliminates the traditional dangling cord, adding child safety and a neater appearance. A special clutch system keeps the shade at the desired height. 9% of our customers order this option overall. But a much higher percent do so when they order large shades which tend to be heavier.
Continuous Cord Loop
Controls
Horizontal blinds normally have two control mechanisms. One raises and lowers the blind (called the LIFT), and the second tilts the angle of the horizontal slats (called a TILTER). The tilter can usually be a cord or a wand. When both cord and wand tilters are available, you may specify which one you'd prefer. The customary location of the LIFT is on the right, and the TILT location is customarily on the left. You may sometimes designate the reverse, or even put them both on one side or the other.

Shades normally have only a LIFT, which you may designate on either the right or left side of the shade. Cordless shades have no controls.

With vertical blinds you can choose between two control mechanisms: either chain control or wand control. Heavy duty cord and chain controls provide years of trouble-free operation. A wand control provides easy operation and eliminates dangling cords or chains that could be dangerous for children and/or pets. The side you put your control(s) on usually depends on which stack option you choose for vertical blinds.
Controls
Cord Cleat
A cord cleat is a small bracket which affixes to the wall near the headrail and allows the cord to be hung up on it, preventing children and pets from becoming entangled in dangling cords.

Cordless

This popular option provides a hidden control system that eliminates the lift cord and enables the shade or blind to be easily raised or lowered with the touch of a finger. Great for child and pet safety too!

24% of our customers order this option when available!

Coverage Width Per Panel The total width covered by the finished panel. The actual amount of fabric used will be about double this finished width. This is sometimes called a "fullness factor" of 2. Ex. 144" in width of fabric is used for a panel with coverage width of 72".
Crenelin
The stiff fabric used in a drapery heading enabling the fabric to maintain a pleat.

Custom-Made
Made according to your exact specifications (to the eighth of an inch), versus ready-made that you can get in a home center that has a limited number of sizes available. Ready-made blinds typically do not provide a proper fit.

Customer Reviews
Unique to Blinds.com -- thousands of real product reviews from real customers, many with photos. Image shows the customer reviews tab that is on each product page.

CVV2
The Credit Card ID is a security feature which helps protect you from online credit card fraud. It is a 3-digit number on the back of your Visa or Master Card, or a 4-digit number on the front of your American Express card.

Decorative Bali Valance
The decorative valance on the Bali 2" economy fauxwood blind. Upgrade to this beautiful valance for only $5.00!

Decorative Keystone A decorative keystone is a piece that adds flair to a cornice and hides the "seam" spot on large cornices. It is also available for purely decorative purposes on smaller cornices.
Decorative Trim
Decorative Trim is available as either valance trim or hem trim. Valance trim is at the top of your shade & applied on the valance; hem trim is at bottom of the shade.
Decorative Trim
Delight
Instead of holes, there are small notches on either side of the slat (Edge Route design) that provide tighter closure to seal out light. This creates darker rooms for increased privacy and security. Slats can also be easily removed for cleaning.

In the case of aluminum blinds, there are holes positioned near the back of the slat so the slat above covers the route hole to provide exceptional light control and privacy.
Delight
Depth of Window (Cartwright Shut)
This determines whether you can mount your shutter within the window opening or whether you will need to mount it instead on your wall or trim. The larger the louver size the more depth required. See chart below. When measuring for depth, start from the outside edge of your wall (not the front of a protruding sill), then measure back towards the glass up to the first obstruction ( e.g. security device, crank, etc).

Diamondwood Motor
For hard-to-reach windows or sheer convenience, your Diamondwood blinds have the option of motorization. This option comes with a motor, the "Eagle Eye" receiver, and a battery holder. No wiring is necessary, so assembly and installation is extremely easy! The motor is concealed in the headrail for smooth, quiet operation. (Remote control and batteries not included.)

Diamondwood Remote Control
When used in conjunction with the Diamondwood Motor option, the Diamondwood Remote gives you the convenience of tilting your blinds from a distance of up to 50 feet from the "Eagle Eye" receiver! Operate up to 3 blinds individually or all of your blinds simultaneously using the "select all channels" function.

Divider Rail
Divider rails add strength to your shutters, and allow you to operate the top louvers independently from the bottom louvers. Divider rails do not allow you to swing open the top section of a panel separately from the bottom like a horse door.

The measurement for the divider rail should be measured from the bottom of the shutter to the center of the divider rail. This position may be altered slightly depending on louver and shutter sizes.
Divider Rail
Double Horizon
The Double Horizon utilizes the same base system as the Horizon and incorporates an additional valance with 4 5/8" side returns to create a double (layered) effect.

Double-Turned
Refers to a more custom and sturdy heading of a pleated drapery, when compared to a single turned heading.

Drapery Return The portion of the drapery or valance extending from the corner of the rod back to the wall.
Draw Draperies
Draperies designed for use with a traverse rod, creating panels that can be drawn to open or close, either from the center to both sides (center draw) or from one side to the other (one-way draw)

Duette PowerRise
PowerRise is a state-of-the-art motorized shade feature that allows for remote or timed shade operation. There is no complicated wiring and many great features are available. This is the perfect solution for difficult to reach shades. If the remote is misplaced, there is manual button on the cover rail.

All PowerRise shades have memory stop and safety stop features. Memory stop allows you to set a predetermined height at which you want the shade to stop. Safety stop prevents the shade from continuing to move when it touches an object in its path, making this an ideal shade for homes with children or pets.

Please be sure that your measurements allow the shade to clear obstructions such as a window handle, as this will prevent the PowerRise feature from operating properly. If you opt to get the optional AC Transformer please note that this takes the place of the internal battery pack inside the headrail.

Duo-Lite Option
Two shades in one: two fabric panels are used, one between the headrail and center rail, and one between the center rail and bottom rail. Typically, a sheer or semi-sheer fabric is combined with an opaque or semi-opaque fabric. Both the center rail and bottom rail are moving rails, each with their own set of lift cords. Either fabric panel, or portion of a fabric panel, may be used to cover the window - giving the choice of two window coverings for the same window. - - Call for pricing.

Dura-Vue
Roll-formed steel profile with an ivory finish.

Wheeled carriers allow louvers to traverse smoothly and easily.

Centrally located carrier stems make the headrail reversible for right or left installation. The clear nylon stems are nearly invisible, yet extremely strong.

10-year warranty.

Dust Cover Valance
A decorative treatment used to cover the face of a headrail on vertical blinds.

E-Z Lift
A continuous cord loop opens and closes the shade smoothly and evenly. Eliminates the traditional dangling cord, adding safety and a neater appearance. A special clutch system keeps the shade at the desired height.

EasyGlide EasyGlide®, with its continuous cord loop and clutch assembly, is the convenient and affordable way to raise and lower larger Brilliance® pleated shades.

Note: New safety changes to this system will make shades partially inoperable unless the cord tensioner is mounted to a wall or window casing. If you don't want anything secured to the window casing, please consider other systems like UltraGlide or PowerRise.

Easy Up Lift
A continuous cord loop which operates the shade. The cord stays the same length regardless of shade position.  (Example at left shows easy up lift option on a cellular shade.)

EasyRise
EasyRise is a continuous cord loop lifting mechanism that is ideal for larger shades or applications where longer cords would not be desired. The cord will remain the same length - well above the pathways of children and pets.

Please note that all systems with EasyRise come standard with a white valance.
EasyRise
Easy Up Another name for continuous cord loop which operates the shade. The cord stays the same length regardless of shade position. (Example at left shows easy up lift option on a cellular shade.)
Edge Banding
Optional 2" Edge Banding adds color and beauty to any room, plus it tightly seals the woven edges to protect against fraying.

Embossed Finish
On some blinds, the slats are available in a raised or otherwise textured finish.

Exotic Colors
In addition to their beauty, these premium exotic stains colors have extra UV coating that lasts longer and reflects heat. Also, when you order an exotic stain, your blind will be automatically upgraded at no extra charge with a matching colonial valance (see image) that offers superior hidden valance clips. Also the trapezoid bottom rail helps the slats close more tightly.

Extension Brackets
Extension Brackets are metal pieces that are used in installing blinds that need to be extended out over the sill (usually over 1/2"). These are only needed for outside mounts.

Eyebrow An eyebrow arch, also called called a "skinny arch", "squished arch", or "flattened arch", is an arch that is longer than it is high, which creates an eyebrow shape.

To order an eyebrow arch, make sure that your width is greater than your height. Blinds.com's Custom Size Wood FibreArch allows you to design your own eyebrow arch!

Finial
A decorative piece attached to the ends of drapery rods. Usually made of wood or metal and can be many sizes and shapes (e.g.. ball, pineapple, acorn, etc).

Flat-Fold Shade
A Roman shade that when lowered, the fabric hangs flat (without folds). When raised, the fabric accordion folds up.

Fabric Valance A window treatment that covers only the top of the window. Very decorative and adds warmth, color, and textural softness at minimal cost.
Full Height (Cartwright Shutter)
A shutter where the height extends up to the top of a rectangular window. If the top of the window is slightly arched, then full height only extends to the bottom of the arch.

Full Height Frame
A full height frame on a cafe shutter provides trim that goes around your entire window opening, not just the shutter-half of the window (as illustrated in the image), and is recommended for inside mount applications.

The benefits of a full height frame are numerous: full coverage is provided for your window, giving a clean trim finish to the entire opening. Also, if you decide at a later time that you would like to add a second set of shutters on the top-half, these can be easily added with an existing full height frame.

Note: This option adds 10% to the price of the shutter to cover additional material costs. On the order form, the height given first (next to width) is the height you want your shutters to be. The second height (under cafe selection) is the height of your entire window so we know how tall to make the frame.

Fullness
The amount of fabric used relative to area covered by the fabric. Typically draperies are 2 to 3 times full. Ex. 200" to 300" are used to cover a distance of 100".

Fully Recessed
"Fully recessed" is where your product fits neatly within your window opening, without it protruding into your room. The depth of your window opening may be sufficient to mount a blind as an Inside Mount, but NOT quite enough to mount it such that the headrail is fully inside the window opening. This happens frequently.

If this is important to you, check to see whether you have enough depth for a full-recessed inside mount. If you do not have enough depth, you can order a special valance at no cost that will ALSO cover the sides of the headrail on most blinds. (In the case of shades that do not have a valance, this is not needed.)

To do this, measure the difference between your window depth and the fully-recessed depth requirement of the blind you want. Then, in the "Special Instructions" section before you complete the order, tell us that you need to order an outside mount valance, and let us know how long to make the sides of that valance.

For example, if your window opening is 2" deep and the fully-recessed depth required is 3"...you'll need a valance with 1" side returns to cover the sides of the protruding headrail.

Please call us at the phone number on top of the Blinds.com website if you need more information.;

Inside Clearance Depth Inside Clearance Depth is the depth measured from the window to the front face of the product. This space provides clearance if there is a blind or drapery already on your window. Make sure there is enough depth to accommodate existing treatments. For example, if you have an outside mount blind that projects 3" from the wall, you would need to choose the 6" clearance depth.
Inside End Mount
Inside End Mount refers to a side mounted bracket system, used when your window is open on top. This is available up to 48" in width.

Inside Mount
An Inside Mount fits within your window frame. It is a sleeker and normally the preferred way to install your window coverings, as long as you have enough depth. It's normally better to use an Inside Mount even if your product is not flush with the front of your window (i.e. it sticks out into your room).

Specify the exact window opening size and the factory will automatically deduct a fraction of an inch to your product so it does not rub against the side of your window. Also see the How to Measure section for more specific measuring guidelines.

There is a tolerance of +/- 1/8" on deductions taken.
Inside Mount
Inside Mount Cartwright Shutter
An inside mount fits within the window frame. When measuring for an inside mount do not add any width to the measurement you took of the window opening with the expectation of reducing side light gaps. With this product there are not any side light gaps due to the way the frame mounts to the window.
