perfectperfect skylight shade, there when you want it, folded up and out of the way when you don'tNovember 5, 2013
SO EASY!!oh my gosh, I received the blind for my skylight yesterday and couldn't wait to install it!! It got to me much quicker than I expected. READ OVER THE INSTRUCTIONS FIRST and installation is a snap!! I did it all by myself! It looks so beautiful, professional and sleek, I couldn't have hoped for any better, had I spent more money and had someone else install it, which would have cost me even MORE. I put it up high in the skylight to help keep out the summer heat that blasts in thru that window. DON'T DELAY, I should have done this years ago. :-) count me very pleased !!!January 18, 2011
Double Blackout Skylight Shades Are SupremeI have bought from this company before and loved the blinds; and was very pleased with price & quality. So when I needed to add skylight shades for a "newly re-purposed room" to be a home office; I researched and came back to blinds.com for best price & quality. My newly rennovated room converted to a home office needed a major overhaul to ensure my pc's could be cooler in an upstairs room, with NO windows and 3 skylights & South facing; in southern NC it means a "very hot room". These were EASY to install & GREAT Quality! Even thought the skylights had professionally installed tinting added to block sun & UV; I cannot believe the amount of heat that these new blinds block when closed. I definitely would recommend the Crystal Pleat 3/8 inch Double Cell Blackout Skytrack Skylight Shades & will purchase additional ones for other skylights in my home.March 13, 2012
Great Skylight ShadesMy 2 skylight shades arrived yesterday. Delivery was very fast. Installation was pretty easy, about 1/2 hour per shade. I can already feel the difference in my family room's comfort. We used to run the AC at 68 just to try and keep it at 72. The AC runs much less now. There was light leakage at the top and where the shade closes at the bottom, but that was easily fixed with some adhesive backed weather strip. My only complaint is that I ordered 2 sets of blinds and blinds.com only included 8 screws, where proper installation of both required 20 screws. A quick trip to Home Depot and $4.00 took care of that issue.Overall, great product, affordable price, quick delivery, enhances the look and feel of my family room.ThanksJimChesterfield, MOMay 25, 2012
They stink! They literally reek of sort of a "burning plastic" smell. We installed these in our bedroom yesterday...we have two east-facing skylights and needed blackout shades due to a change in job to third shift...need to sleep during the day. I wouldn't say they completely black out but they do one heck of a good job. They look fantastic!! The quality is excellent! They were not easy to install. It took over three hours to install the two of them. We have two more to install in our living room, in very high skylights, and we are not looking forward to that. But the smell!!!! It seems to be a function of the sun hitting them and heating them up because they were fine yesterday and last night (we will simply be leaving them closed all the time). Today I walked into that room and was nearly knocked over by the odor. It is a weird chemical smell that if it continues I do not see how we can keep these. And if it happens with the living room ones, too, our whole house will stink.I sprayed the room with Lysol NeutraAir and am praying that does the job. It's a very hot day today; part of the reason we bought these was to keep the heat out. But if the heat causes this amount of stinkiness, I can't see the point of keeping these.July 7, 2013
Perfect fitI purchased these blinds as a replacement to the ones that I had installed with the original skylights. Not only did they fit better than the original ones, they look greatApril 1, 2008
Blackout skytrack for SkylightThis is a great product, simple to install and makes a wonderful addition to the room. Blackout is great for sleeping and for keeping the room cooler cutting down on the need for running the a/cOctober 2, 2012
You need one of these!!I can not beleive I waited so long to buy my skylight blind. It made a major improvement in room comfort and I can tell that my AC is running less. I am sure the blind will pay for itself in no time.I work in an office but am a pretty handy guy. Easy and smooth install, good directions. Had these blinds installed in 30 minutes!I have a sloped skylight chase and so had to make a custom angled cut on the tracks to make them fit correctly. The bottom does not close as tightly as design because of this sloped chase, but does not let any light in. Just a minor appearance thing as reflected in rating. My wife and I love it, you will too!September 10, 2011
skylight blinds awesome!I live in Colorado so the sun shining through my skylights is frequent and bright. It makes it difficult to watch TV or movies during daylight hours. Bought the room-darkening shades for the skylights and for the windows - it is no longer a problem!Installation (once I figured out which way to place the brackets) was really pretty easy. Make sure you have the right tools and a tall enough ladder and you should be good to go. I had to call customer service to figure out the brackets, but the rep was extremely helpful and talked me through it so that I thoroughly understood the situation.Highly recommended!!!July 26, 2012
Skylight SuccessWe needed to control the effect that a skylight was having on a bedroom...light and heat during the day, and heat loss during the night...the double cell blind inside the skylight recess did the trick perfectly. The room is much more comfortable post-installation.Installation was easy, but full disclosure, I am a very experienced diy'er. I didn't see anything to be afraid of for anyone with basic competence though...accurate measurement up front, and thoroughly understanding the measurement instructions is the key.I really like the double cell product, and I would enthusiastically buy again given the need.March 18, 2013
Read directions carefullyThese blinds may mount differently than explained in the directions depending on the construction of the skylight. Be sure to read directions carefully and understand how things work before mounting hardware. For example, the clips that hold the blind in place are designed only for horizontal mount, and my skylight required vertical mount. I was able to force it to work, but only after much figuring and calculating. The blinds are beautiful and have made a huge difference in the comfort of our room with 4 skylights and with cooling the room in the summer heat.July 6, 2012
Finally pulled the trigger on these and very happyBeen watching and reading about these on the site for 10 months. Had 2 blinds installed in a couple hours. I did take my time to make sure I did it right. Very happy with the results. They absolutley block all the light as described. Once started the installation went well with no big suprises.February 18, 2013
Do not give them true measurementsThis is the second of these Skylight blinds I have ordered. The first one arrived a little too narrow, so that it kept coming out of the tracks on the side. I was surprised as I measured EXACTLY according to their instructions (and I have measured stuff for a living all my life, so that's not the problem).A few months later, I needed a second unit.Surprise... the second one I ordered (for a different skylight) is also too narrow. By exactly the same amount (about 1/4").So what I think they are doing is cutting them a little too narrow, assuming that you'll mess up your measurement. But if you send them an accurate measurement, it will be about 1/4"-3/8" too narrow. So maybe add a quarter inch to whatever you really measured.Anyways, they weren't exactly cheap, so I was dissapointed. I ended up putting a 1/4" furring strip in the opening to narrow it. I'm sure I could have gone through some huge process and sent them back, but this was less hassle.July 3, 2010
Great Purchase!I was very happy with Blinds.com. Very quick delivery, perfect fit and easy install! It looks great! Thanks again.February 24, 2012
Had to modify it to workI measured carefully but they got the side rails the wrong length so we had to cut them, but that wasn't hard. But the overall length of the pull out shade seemed too short and the string assembly was difficult to figure out. It seemed like there wasn't enough string length to open it entirely, so we had to modify it and get rid of the string assembly entirely. Then we had to screw two pieces of metal together that weren't intended to be, because frankly I have no idea how this thing is supposed to work - the directions are not helpful enough to figure it out. But with the modifications we made, I am able to pull it shut and amazingly it stays shut by wedging it closed. I will need to get a latch on the other side to keep it open more, but its better than what I had there before, so it works for my purposes. Its nice and dark when closed, which is great. But if I had wanted it to work like it was intended, I would be very disappointed.April 10, 2011
just okInstallation is very difficult and design is strange. First, you must have a flat installation area on the top, sides, and bottom. On my skylight, I have an opening mechanism on the bottom that made installation very difficult/impossible.Secondly, the spring mechanism in this skylight is flaky at best. It was not clear how exactly to get it to work, or even why it was necessary. In the end I jerry-rigged something to work, but it was nowhere near as easy as others I've installed. It could have used a simple track system or even a magnet. The look once installed is very nice, and the blackout is complete so, no complaints there.July 12, 2014
Double Cell Graber Blackout Shades for SkylightsWe have a skylight in our kitchen (a large one) and in our bedroom. (I can sleep beneath the stars!) We love the skylights, but there are times when we need the shade closed, i.e., when it is very hot or in our bedroom when it is very cold (above our head). We initially purchased the blind manufactured by the skylight company, over time it fell apart and I hated the look of it especially since we just finished remodeling inside our home. These Graber skylight blinds look beautiful (color perfect!) and they keep all the light out and am sure they will be better in the winter. My only concern is the pole we last used is a hook and this pull is rectangular plastic so I have emailed Blinds.com to see if there is a special pole. I recommend these especially from Blinds.com 100%May 29, 2012
Excellent BlindsI installed three of these on the small skylights in 2 bedrooms. The first was a bit tricky to figure out (the drawings could be clearer I think) but the next two went in very quickly. I was afraid I might have do some shimming but there were no problems with the fit at all. They are truly blackout shades, although some light gets in through small seams on the top and bottom rails which may be the case with all skylight shades and does not bother me - with one skyight directly above my head, I can finally sleep past dawn! The pole for reaching the handle seems sturdy, though I think the plastic handles on the shades could be heavier.May 23, 2014
Blind won't stay openI followed the directions and installation was mostly uneventful with one exception. The placement of the screw on the side glide is too close to the blind making it difficult to get the screwdriver in the actually install the screw. The other issue which I continue to have is that even with the tension on the loosest setting the blind pops back open. I spoke to customer service who spoke to technical service who advised that the blind needed to relax for 72 hours. There was no mention of this in the installation instructions. Also, it has been well over a week and the blind will still not stay open although it does appear to be improving. Thankfully, I haven't needed the blinds yet.August 17, 2013
Great product, great value.I'm one of those people who complain when I'm not happy, and compliment when I am. This is a great product at a great price. I had two large skylights to cover, roughly 4' by 5'. These were easy to installl (and I'm not very good at anything mechanical) with very clear instructions. The finished product looks great and functions great. In addition to blocking light, they also have terrific insulating properties, saving a lot of heat from going out through the glass. They are also very economical compared with other products I looked at. Great customer service, prompt shipping -- the way all business should be run. Nice work!December 19, 2009
