But First, Meet Michaela.

This lovely lady is the face behind Michaela Noelle Designs, and one of the freshest new players in the design world. She’s a sunny California native whose spaces make the absolute most of all that west coast sunshine.

Michaela’s latest design challenge has been a major update to her family home. The mini-blind clad windows were especially crying out for an upgrade. Michaela replaced them with Plantation Shutters and Roman Shades from Blinds.com. Let’s take a look at Michaela’s new spaces for a lesson in light.

2 Window Covering Choices That Make The Most of Natural Light

Natural light is one of your home’s biggest assets. Why not play it up?

1. Wide Slats

Shutters are a classic choice for many reasons. Durability, clean lines, and easy operation are unbeatable. But our favorite feature is the wide open view they offer.

Because shutters are made with wide slats, you get more unobstructed space to see out. When we compare them to thin-slatted mini blinds, the difference is huge.

Michaela chose bright and beautiful Blinds.com Woodlite Shutters for the bedrooms. They’ve got classic style, and can close tight for uninterrupted sleep.

2. Light – Colored, Lightweight Fabrics.

If you want to brighten up your space, but need a little privacy and glare control, light filtering fabrics are  the best choice. As you may know, white reflects light. When you choose white blinds, shutters or fabric shades, they’ll make the most of your home’s natural light by bouncing it around your room.

Choose light filtering fabrics for glare control and a soft glow through windows. However, if you need more light control you can add a privacy or blackout liner.
