Blackout Shades in Action at Penelope's Oasis

Abigail Sawyer | 30 May 2013 | Blackout

One of our favorite bloggers, Penelope, doles out gems of wisdom to her readers about parenting, marriage and tips for creating an oasis out of your home, on her blog Penelope’s Oasis. We love her post about the perfect reading nooks.

She has just completed her home renovation and wanted beautiful window treatments to finish it all. Plus, with two kiddos running around she needed something that’s child safe. Penelope chose the Graber CrystalPleat 3/4″ Single Cell Blackout Shades in Moonlight.

Here’s what Penelope had to say after shopping with Blinds.com:

” I favored anything easy to clean and that would do a good job screening out the light, since the first windows we’d be dressing are those in the boy’s rooms (early morning light is a beautiful thing, but too-early rising bunchkins waking up an already tired mom is not).”

“The Graber Crystal Pleat 3/4″ Sing;e Cell Blackout Shades come with a cordless option, and they do a good job of blocking out light even though we chose to have them inner mounted. You can see the cells in these photos, which do double duty – they help keep indoor climate controlled (no heat loss) and at the same time block out the light.”

Among the many custom options available with cellular shades, Penelope chose cordless for safety and an inside mount for a cleaner look. Outside mounts block more light, but they cover up the window frame and must be mounted to the wall above the window.

She says, “It’s very easy to lift the bottom up and down by holding the tab with one hand, and the room is almost totally dark any time of day.”
