This weekend 10 members of the Blinds.com family represented us at Race for the Cure in downtown Houston as Team Blind Faith. The fight against breast cancer is one that we are so honored to support, especially with the thousands of people that turned out to run as well. Our Team’s set out to raise $500 for the Susan G. Komen Society, but they exceeded their goal and raised $550! Several of our team were running in memoriam of family members lost to breast cancer and other cancers, but many were there to help raise awareness and show support for the women battling this disease.
Sarah Batilla said, ” As a first generation Mexican American, the women in my family don’t go to the doctor for problems that seem minor. One reason I support Race for the Cure is because it helps women know that it’s OK to take care of themselves. Now women can get the medical care they need and catch things earlier.”
Blinds.com has participated in Race for the Cure for 6 years running. This year the team tried to recruit more of the male contingent in the office by designing a shirt inspired by the Game of Thrones Series. Our runners rocked out in pink like the rest of the crowds, but stood out with direwolves emblazoned on their chests.
Two of the team members, Skyler and Bryan, ran the timed race and were able to achieve personal fitness goals while supporting this great cause.
The team said that it was amazing to see cancer survivors running alongside them, and felt an absolute buzz in the air with all the encouragement and passion to beat this disease.
Did You Run Too?
We’d love to hear stories if your life has been touched by breast cancer, or if you participated in one of the other races across the country!
