Do you remember the moment when you walked in to your home and knew it was “the one”? Did you fall in love with the big oak tree out front where kids could play, the dining room that was perfect for thanksgiving dinner, or the built-in work workshop off of the garage? When we think of home, all of us have a special space that we love the most.
As Valentine’s Day approaches, we want to help you rekindle the love with your home. Even though the pipes burst last winter and the stairs still squeak, don’t forget about the things that made you first fall in love.
We asked Blinds.com employees to share what they love most about home:
When I was in search for our first house I wanted something that I could turn into my own. A lot of homes were painted already, new construction with all details already added. I didn’t want that; I wanted to add my own detailing to find my style. I searched for quite a while and then found my home. It was completely vacant and needed a lot of work. It was perfect! We started from the bottom and worked to the top with paint and extra little details. We have been in the home for about 4 years now and we are still adding our own character to it.
“It was completely vacant and needed a lot of work. It was perfect!”
We just recently redid the master bedroom. It was bright and overwhelming. It is a large room so I wanted to make it soft yet strong. My husband didn’t want something girly! We went with grays and whites; you know gray is the new black! It turned out great! I enjoy it and am ready to start on the next room. ~ Lauren
I fell in love with my apartment because of the beautiful granite countertops in both my kitchen and bathroom. But, since I started decorating, I must say I have really fallen “in love” with my bedroom! With the help of a design team (my crafty mother that is), I was able to create the perfect mixture of girly, mature and chic designs – scoreeee!
“I have really fallen ‘in love’ with my bedroom!”
I especially love the drapes behind my bed though! After much pondering I decided to replace my shower curtain with a more subtle design, and actually moved the original shower curtain to act as a drape behind my bed! The new “drapes” definitely add the perfect pop of color to my room! ~ Mindy
The thing I love most about my house is all of the unique vintage pieces we’ve collected over the years.
“No one else could ever replicate our style.”
From the 1960’s Zen secretary desk to the 1902 player piano to our Mid Century Modern lounger to the apothecary media cabinet – it’s so much fun to be a treasure hunter for our home and know that no one else could ever replicate our style.
It’s a challenge to blend such variety, but I stick to warm tones, clean lines and lots of lovely utility to help make our home as inviting as can be. ~Katie
