How to Add Texture to an Eclectic Living Room with Woven Wood Shades

Abigail Sawyer | 16 Feb 2017 | Home Tours

Darnetha is a DIY loving mom of 3 and blogger at Chippa Sunshine. Her home nails the bright, inviting style that so many of us are striving for. In her living room, she mixes classic lines, contrasting textures and calm neutrals for a lovely family gathering space.

New Windows Get a Polished Layered Look

Darnetha and family have been lovingly restoring a 1940s home by giving it a new roof, gutting bathrooms and replacing all the drafty windows.

With the window project completed, Darnetha was ready to give her sparkly new panes the beautiful treatments they deserved. She added some softness with linen draperies, but knew they needed something more to make them truly stand out.

With help from her Blinds.com designer Danielle, Darnetha decided that Woven Wood Shades would do the trick. She ordered free samples to help narrow down her options from the hundreds of patterns available at Blinds.com.

Darnetha Says:

I ordered over ten samples of different bamboo and woven wood shades. I’m so happy I did because a few that I thought I loved I quickly ixnayed. I got the whole family involved and after holding each sample up to the window, we chose Hatteras Camel from Blinds.com Economy Woven Wood Shades.

Darnetha Says:

The installation was easy peasy after we fully understood the directions. Using a ladder we first did a dry fit and marked the exact location for each bracket. After we screwed the brackets into place, we simply hung are shade up and got some instant gratification.

Curtains + Woven Shades Give a Textured Layered Look

The curtains add softness and can be left open to frame the window while the shades offer privacy and light control.
