My name is Rachel Sloan and I am the (overly excited) latest social media intern here at Blinds.com! Generally I am not one to use exclamation marks but something about this whole experience has made me a believer in them.
I am currently a student at the University of Houston for Public Relations and am originally from the Austin area. I have collected a love for home décor, social media, and all things DIY through my crafty mother and my creative sorority sisters and could not be more excited to apply that knowledge here. My prize jewel in crafting was the sorority paddle I made for my big sister before her return to Maryland and I firmly believe I can never top that, but I will try my hardest. I chose Houston for so many reasons to start my future and already I can see I wasn’t mistaken- this city has welcomed me with open arms and shown my opportunities (this job for example) that I never could have dreamed were possible.
Coming from a journalism background I was shocked at how friendly and welcoming the team here could be, even through the many introductions each person was more endearing than the last. Even as I was touring the office people were telling me how important social media was (not always a popular belief) and what a great experience they had here. I am a firm believer that the greatest aspect of any company is it’s employees- people are the ones that truly shape an experience- and the ones here are clearly a large part of what makes this place so great. Just a glimpse into my first day here: I got the full office tour, geeked out about blogs with my boss, learned crazy fun information about blinds, and discovered the beauty of a blog reader (I can read so many more now!). I have only been here a day and I know that I am rightfully psyched about this opportunity and I look forward to spending my fall here!
