Hey guys! Rachael here (yes another Rachael, we seem to be popular around this office), and I’m the new Marketing/PR Intern for Fall 2015!
Two years previously I met a few Blinds.com employees at a University of Houston career event and was able to learn about their core values, which really stood out to me from other companies. Seeing pictures of the working environment and the very energetic, animated employees on social media, I knew that if I had the opportunity to work with this company, it would be a very rewarding experience. 2 years later, I’m thrilled to be a part of the Blinds.com team as the fall intern.
My expectations were high the first day on the job, but my experience absolutely exceeded them. Not only were the core values I learned about adhered with this company, they’re displayed on the walls all over the office! “Experiment without Fear,” “Improve Continuously,” Encourage Individual Expression” and “Enjoy the Ride” are very uplifting and positive which produces an outstanding environment for all employees that rewards the company with reaching goals and continuous success. Since becoming a part of the marketing team, I have witnessed firsthand how these values influence everyone.
I’m a senior at the University of Houston (Go Coogs!) studying English Literature. It’s been a long road, but I finally graduate in May! I’m also a natural hair blogger who changes my hair constantly. One week I might rock a fro then the next temporarily color it purple, throw it in a wig or twist it in Senegalese twists. I love that my hair is so versatile and have embraced that it has a mind of it’s own. I even named it “Kinks,” as silly as that sounds, but in my opinion, my blog name, Fresh Kinks, fits with my hair perfectly.
Here’s a few pictures from my blog:
I consider myself a “selfie-queen,” since I’ve always got my Sony camera in tow taking photos of my hair for the blog. When I’m not blogging, I’m spending time with my friends and frat bros from my business fraternity. Alpha Kappa Psi Professional Business Fraternity, Inc. introduced me to the marketing field that I now love and I’m proud to be a part of it.
Starting my first week during Blinds.com’s “Halloweek” I learned quickly that the employees really love to participate in events and activities around the office. Zombies, the Mad Hatter, plenty of cats and superheros graced the office every day. One of my first assignments was to take pictures of everyone around the office for social media. I really enjoyed doing this because it helped me engage with everyone in different departments which helped me introduce myself. I wasn’t prepared to dress up every day like everyone else, but I participated the best I could with things I already had at home. Even though I didn’t compare to some of the employees who had their week of costumes planned out weeks in advance, I was praised for participating which made me feel very welcomed. I love that all the training I’ve received so far has been very hands on! I was able to watch and assist with filming unboxing videos for the website and social media and was even able to post all of the pictures to Instagram for National Cat Day.
Here’s a few of the photos I took during the week:
I really enjoyed my first week and am very happy to be a part of the Blinds.com marketing team. I can’t wait to share some home decor tips and tricks with you on The Finishing Touch.
