Every Mid Century lover dreams of a home with sleek floor to ceiling windows. Ruthy, who writes at Discovery Street, found just such a home in the Pacific Nothwest. She and her husband have been lovingly restoring the “straight-out-of-mad-men” space with shiplap walls, angular accents and amazing windows.
Oh, the windows!
But with unique windows come unique challenges.
“We bought our house in the winter, and in the Pacific Northwest, you can count on gray skies and darkness by 4pm. Having these windows allowed as much light as possible to pour into our home, which was awesome when you get minimal light in winter. However, by the time summer rolled around and the sun was out until 9pm, we realized the heat and light pouring in was less than ideal. And trying to find window coverings for floor to ceiling custom made windows from 1967 was also proving to be difficult.”
After chatting with Blinds.com designer Josh, Ruthy landed on Blinds.com Solar Roller Shades in Pale Grey. The sleek shades blend perfectly with the home’s modern style, plus they block heat while allowing Ruthy to keep the light she loves.
With a toddler and newborn at home, Ruthy knew she need something that was safer for kids. She added a motorized lift which eliminates all hazardous cords, and makes the shades a snap to raise and lower.
“The difference these solar shades make is remarkable. You can see the drastic difference on the light hitting the floor and furniture in the before and after picture. We absolutely love that we can be sitting on the couch and with the touch of a button block the sun, yet maintain our view. And the best part is that there are no cords at all, especially since the windows are right next to the our daughter’s play area.”
