Neutral Bedroom Gets an Elevated Look with Woven Wood Shades

Abigail Sawyer | 10 Aug 2017 | Bedroom

Most people focus most of their decorating efforts on the public spaces of their home like the living room and kitchen, leaving bedrooms looking unfinished in comparison.

Step up your bedroom look with stylish new window coverings. Today, our blogger pal Amanda is walking us through her latest makeover and sharing tips for how to choose blinds and curtains for the bedroom.

Meet Amanda Risius

Amanda Risius is an Iowa based interior designer who writes at Amanda Katherine and has been featured in Apartment Therapy, Domino. Brit+Co, The EveryGirl and more! She got her start documenting the decor of her college apartment and is now making her first home feel like her own. Amanda is not afraid to let her style evolve. Just because you loved something a few moths ago doesn’t mean that it’ll bring you joy now.

Woven Wood Shades for a Serene, Beachy Bedroom

Amanda felt good about her bedroom style, but knew that the windows needed some help. Her first step was choosing between blinds and curtains.

Amanda Says:

Blinds make rooms feel more open and less “crowded” with their less intrusive design. This is actually the very reason I wanted to switch from curtains to blinds (aside from the fact that our blinds were too short and not the right color) in our bedroom.

The curtains felt too crowded in our small room and I wanted a cleaner, more open look that blinds offer. See a quick snapshot of our bedroom with ill-fitting blinds below…You can see how if the curtains were hung 8 inches above the frame (if they were longer, of course) how it would make the ceilings feel taller. That’s why hanging them properly is so important.

Amanda opted for Deluxe Woven Wood Shades in Girona Raffia which give the windows texture and casual style. The neutral/natural palette is perfect for a serene bedroom.

She elevated her shades from tiki hut to polished with white cloth binding that covers the unfinished woven wood edge.

Amanda Says:

“When I was choosing blinds for our bedroom, I went with the deluxe woven wood shades in Girona Raffia from Blinds.com. They’re similar in color to the blinds in our living room and fit the light and beachy style in our bedroom perfectly. They also have a white trim edging on the outside as a cute touch.”

Another convenient feature is the cordless lift. It eliminates messy cords for a clean look, which this design-conscious homeowner loves.

Amanda Says:

“Probably my favorite feature of our new bedroom blinds is they’re cordless! You just pull down on the blinds and they glide down, and then push up to open. It’s so convenient to not have to mess with the cords and have them dangling, not to mention much safer if you have kids at home. I wish all of our blinds were cordless now!”
