New Orleans Kitchen Gets New Light with Airy Roller Shades

Whitney is a New Orleans based interior designer whose self-professed style is bold, eclectic, chic, and modern. She’s also a textile designer who has a line of fabulous pillows. Whitney has set up her design office out of her mother’s home, and after spending so much time there, wanted to give it a little makeover.

Modern Makeover for a New Orleans Kitchen

Whitney saw that in the kitchen natural light levels varied dramatically throughout the day. She worked with to find a solution to filter that light when needed and add some style.

She called up Designer Danielle who steered her towards light filtering roller shades. Danielle sent Whitney lots of free fabric samples so she could find the right fit for the space.

Whitney Says:

There were A LOT of options to choose from. I ordered a bunch of samples, but there were 3 that stood out to me. We decided that brown floral (Stacy Garcia Watercolor Floral – Beige) and the linear design (Stacey Garcia Menswear – Tweed) was too much for the mostly brown kitchen. So, we went with the beautiful blue Stacy Garcia Silk in Turquoise.

When Whitney received her shades a few weeks later, she went to work installing them in a flash.

Whitney Says:

Installation was pretty easy. I had all four shades up in about an hour and a half.

Whitney Says:

I was so excited to install the shades, because as you can see, this was at the time when the light is at it’s brightest (which is when it’s most harsh). The fabric of the roller shades are thin enough so that the light isn’t blocked, but still helps the kitchen have a softer illumination.
