As Seen On Property Brothers: Bachelor Pad Gets a Spacious Look with Woven Wood Shades

Whether you're renovating to increase your resale value, or just make your place look more beautiful, you can get oodles of inspiration from this Property Brothers makeover.

On this episode of Property Brothers: Buying and Selling, The Scott Brothers helped Alex and Sam upgrade a too-small bachelor pad with a new spacious look and some gorgeous Woven Wood Shades.

Property Brothers take Bachelor Pad from Cramped to Spacious

Alex lived in a small one-story home in Franklin, TN, but when Sam moved in and the couple adopted two rescue dogs, the bachelor pad felt way too small. Jonathan and Drew walked through the home and found some major buyer turnoffs like an awkward wall splitting the kitchen and living room, wood floors with pet damage, and the absence of any dining space.

Thanks to a generous gift from Alex's grandma, the couple was able to make $14,000 in improvements which ended up increasing the selling price by $80,000.

Basic Exterior Gets Serious Curb Appeal Upgrade

The unappealing exterior got an inexpensive but impactful overhaul with a stone path, fresh coat of paint and polished landscaping.

Living Room goes from Awkward to Entertaining Central

The biggest improvements happened in the living room and kitchen. Jonathan knocked down a boxy wall that divided the two spaces and turned it into one large room. He then vaulted the ceiling by removing unused attic space.

The living room window coverings work to draw the eye upward and further highlight the new vaulted ceiling. The windows got a finished look with Deluxe Woven Wood Shades in Verona Sandbar.

These shades were ordered without a liner to make the most of natural light, even when they are lowered.

Drapes in grey to match the wall color add to the cozy feel and create a nice backdrop behind the couch.

A neutral rug helps visually divide the living room from the kitchen while still allowing the open space to have an effortless flow.

Stylish Kitchen Makes Efficient Use of Small Space

The previously cramped kitchen got a wide-open layout by knocking out an awkward laundry room and relocating the washer and dryer inside oversized cabinets in the kitchen.

The new U-shaped kitchen gets twice the counter space with a large island. It also adds an eating space that the room previously lacked.

This fresh, bright kitchen gets the perfect injection of delicate texture with Deluxe Woven Wood Shades in Verona Sandbar. The woven grass material brings out the natural wood texture in accessories throughout the space.

In a small home, efficient storage is key. Ill-fitting DIY cabinets got replaced with custom made beauties that go all the way to the ceiling and fit perfectly around appliances.

Clean subway tile and white quartz countertops provide a simple backdrop that allows the fun wood roman shades to be the star of the show.

Alex and Sam were able to sell the bachelor pad for $80,000 over their pre-renovation value and then able to buy a larger home with room for their family to grow.
