One of Curbly’s fabulous designers Alicia Lacy was invited to makeover a drab preschool playroom and create something wonderful!
The potential of this giant room (over 1,000 square feet) was clearly there, all it needed was an amazing designer like Alicia to bring it to life. Alicia had a vision to define the large, open space with gentle colors, and quirky accents that would get the kids’ imaginations flowing.

She says:
The thing we love most about the gym is the abundance of natural light it gets throughout the day. Although it’s a basement, it has large, south-facing windows, so it practically overflows with light in the afternoon. This is great! Except when it’s not … like when 25 preschoolers are trying to rest during quiet time.
She says:
That’s where window treatments come in. Say heeeeeeey to the Designer Roman Shade from Blinds.com! These shades had a profound effect on the room, adding texture and an organic softness. They complemented the paint in a most excellent way and instantly elevated the entire room.
Safety First
Choosing safer for kids window coverings is important for all window in homes with little ones, but especially in areas like bedrooms and playrooms where they may be left unattended.
Keeping this in mind, Alicia chose the completely cordless lift for her Designer Roman Shades. Unlike other cordless roman shades which still have exposed cords on the back, these have a roller shade attached to the back which gently raises the fabric with no cords whatsoever. See this option in action.
