How to Install Inside Mount Plantation Shutters

If you measured for inside mount Plantation shutters, follow these simple installation steps:

  1. Find enough working space to assemble your frame, preferably in front of your window frame. Lay out frames and strips on carpet or quilts to avoid scratches, and match the appropriate corners to ensure proper fit.
  2. Assemble the frame by tapping the key into pre-routed slots on the back of each frame.
  3. Center and level the frame on the inside of the window opening. If you are using hang strips, center and attach the strips to both sides of the opening. Make sure they are set so the panels are as close to flush with the wall as possible.
  4. Once the frame is centered and level, screw the frame into the wall in three places through the pre-drilled holes: top left and right corners, and once in the top middle. This will ensure that the top of the frame is square and level.
  5. Attach the panels to the frame by inserting the hinge pins.
  6. Ensure there are no gaps and test your shutters. Open and close the panels, checking for clearance between panels and proper alignment. If adjustments are necessary, move the side frames back and forth.
  7. When your shutters are even with no gaps, secure the frame using additional screws through the pre-drilled holes.
  8. Attach the button catch by placing the catch on the lip of the window frame, ½” from the inner edge of the stile. Screw the catch into the frame.
  9. Place the strike plate onto the catch and close the panel to determine the proper location for the strike plate. Mark where the button should be on the panel with a pencil. The button should be installed ½” from the inner edge of the stile.
  10. Remove from the catch and screw it into the panel.
